A few months ago I found a small mention of an Irish band, and another mention about a small film - a musical - being made in Ireland. Reading more, I found that the singer, Glen Hansard, is in the band The Frames, who I had heard of but not heard, and the director of this film had cast Hansard as one of the leads. I found that the film is called Once and I went out and picked up the Frames CD For The Birds and put it on to check out while I was writing. There was a song that brought me out of what I was working to just listen to this amazing song, "Headlong". If I had a Top Ten list of favorite songs, it just made the list. I immediately went out and picked up every CD of theirs I could find. So, yeah, I'd say I've gone positively mad for The Frames. The film just did quite well at Sundance, picked up The Buzz and found a distributor. Hansard has a solo album out, The Swell Season, that has some songs that are included in Once, including a beautiful song called "Falling Slowly".The Frames have a new album coming out in a few weeks and will be stopping in NYC one night in April. Their live shows are incredible to listen to, that's how they made their name in Ireland, so I'm very excited to check them out. I've included a link to right to a show from 2005 that has some great, if slightly fuzzy, stuff. And another link for a great live version of "Headlong".
