We saw Once last night. I found a post on The Frames mesageboard the night before announcing a screening as a part of the New Directors/New Films series at the Walter Reade theater. I have been excitedly waiting for months to see this film and I wondered if my expectations might be too high and that my familiarity with Glen Hansard and his music that I have raved and raved (and raved) about might get in the way of the movie. One of the first songs played is also one my favorites so I was like "Oh, aweome, 'Say It To Me Now!'" But then the story takes over, I was swept up and it was just a Guy and a Girl, drawn together while they try to make some music. This is a beautiful, simple little film that wears its romantic heart unabashedly on its sleeve. It will make you want to kiss your girl and play guitar.
It's set for a May 18 release.
And I’m not going to tell you to go get the most amazing album you’re not listening to: Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova’s The Swell Season. I’m just not.
